Job Description

As an interaction design professor, you will prepare talented students for interactive design and game development by instructing them in industry-standard technology within collaborative studio spaces, professional conferences, and opportunities to work with digital media companies. In a hands-on, positive classroom environment, you will lead demonstrations to assist students in the design process of intuitive digital experiences for mobile apps, web platforms, and immersive interfaces. You will confidently guide students through the conceptualization and creation of high-fidelity prototypes or MVPs and encourage experimentation with tools such as Webflow, Bubble, or Glide. Additional duties include supporting students as they learn to collaborate with developers and effectively hand off designs.

Responsibilities include adherence to all duties and expectations outlined in the SCAD Faculty Handbook, which encompasses coursework preparation, syllabus design and approval, office hours, midterm grade reviews, and more. Among other responsibilities, you will provide students with extra help sessions, extended learning opportunities, and field trips outside of regular class hours. As a faculty member, you will join a supportive team of professional educators dedicated to nurturing a diverse and talented student body through a curriculum grounded in real-world design challenges and trends.

In this role, you will model professionalism, fulfill all grading and academic documentation requirements, and record attendance. You will assist with all academic assessment and institutional effectiveness efforts. Occasionally, you may support departmental and university-wide initiatives by attending both in-person and virtual events, such as faculty councils, admission activities, accreditation support, curriculum development, and exhibitions, among other duties. Professors must fulfill teaching assignments determined by contact hours as specified in the Employment Agreement.

The ideal candidate is interested in teaching design frameworks that extend beyond human-centered design, including universal design, systems innovation, or speculative design, and is open to exploring the role of generative AI in the design process. They are passionate about helping students bring their ideas to life through rapid prototyping and emerging technologies. They are eager to assist students in building minimum viable products using web technologies or low-code tools. Additionally, they are enthusiastic about visual communication, creative problem-solving, and inclusive design.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Degree in interactive design and game development or a related field such as computer science or human-computer interaction
  • Professional experience in design, interaction, or product development
  • Familiarity with Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, Webflow, Bubble, and Glide
  • Experience using IxD/UI/UX design for apps, web, or XR products
  • Strong background in visual interface and digital product design

Preferred qualifications:

  • Teaching experience at the collegiate level
  • Working knowledge of Python or JavaScript
  • Experience with the game engines Unity or Unreal

Travel required:

  • Less than 10%

Required application documents:

  • Current résumé and/or CV
  • Cover letter
  • Portfolio or its equivalent
  • Unofficial academic transcripts

Special instructions to applicants: Only complete packages will be considered. An unofficial transcript of your highest degree awarded, a cover letter, and a résumé or CV are required.

Work hours: As noted in the Employment Agreement.
